The Fashion Awakens

So I took my mom to see the new Star Wars. It was a fun movie. Predictable, but fun. I think it’s a pretty smart move to revive the franchise with tried & true plot & faces. I don’t really have much to say about it because spoilers.

I will say I couldn’t take my eyes off the fashion! This is one stylish movie! I know we’ve already seen Star Wars characters splashed across the runway, but there are some distinct style trends coming for spring and pre fall that I think will tumble into winter.
Once I started searching 2016 fashion trends on pinterest, I couldn’t stop. My board ballooned to triple digits in a matter of minutes. I was seeing the force in EVERYTHING! So what you’re going to get here is a condensed version of my ridiculous pinning problem that is hopefully coherent & not chaos.
Lets get started with some real basic Han Solo. Barbara Bui Spring is very on the nose.
The Resistance is chicly represented by Electric Feathers Spring, Fendi Spring, & Burberry Pre Fall. I also think this little droid is going to lead to lots of orange &white ensembles.
Captain Phasma is sleek & that cape is on point, but Kylo Ren is even more sophisticated. I see elements of his Yohji Yamamoto-esque ensemble throughout the year.
Marina Hoermanseder, David Koma, Trina Turk, Hellessy, Joseph, The Row, & Valentino in the Spring.
Burberry, Chanel, Elle Saab, Fendi, & Rebecca Taylor in the Fall.
Dusters are going to be huge.
Rey is the big star of this movie & going to be a big influence in women’s wear.
There are elements of her in nearly all of the above looks, but I think we’ll see her most in the year’s hottest pant (not sure about all these culottes) & draping.
Isabel Marant, Narciso Rodriguez, Lisa Perry, Tibi, Beaufille, Badgley Mischka, & Belstaff are doing their best.
I think what’s great about Rey’s wardrobe is the femininity without losing functionality. While I like it & understand why everyone will make of fuss over her, I was most drawn to the Resistance wardrobe. The color palette is basic, but fresh with olive & mustard. It’s very wearable.
Also, how adorable is Billie Lourd in mini Leia buns?
