Olympics? Maybe you’re wondering what this has to do with fashion, but it is an opportunity to display a unified representation of American culture. Apparently the US is white af…
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy Ralph Lauren as much as the next prepster, but I believe the collaboration is lacking. Several countries took a more fashion forward approach incorporating athleisure pieces & keeping branding cohesive across the entire Olympic pac.
I feel like every other country had a very unified look while the US was a mismatch of reds, blues, & white. I’m all for individual expression, but everyone on the team should have matching uniforms within their field. I don’t know why, but it drove me crazy that our women’s medley swimmers were in different suits! Actually I do know why. They make a huge deal about the opening & closing ceremonies being a unified style, but the rest of the uniforms were all over the place.
And about those ceremony uniforms. I think it would be interesting to see a collaboration with a younger American designer. Marc Jacobs & Alexander Wang would inject some much needed coolness.
I’m also loving the idea of a collab with Levi. I think it would be aesthetically pleasing & functional.
Okay, these are still pretty preppy, but with a more active & athletic approach. The current collaboration always feels a bit predictable. America is still young, scrappy, & hungry. We should be owning it!
