Extra! Extra!

An ode to Jack Kelly*

Just a moon so big and yellow, it turns night right into day.
Dreams come true. Yeah they do. In Santa Fe.

So lets get drunk
Not with liquor, fame works quicker
When you’re king of New York

We’ll all be out there
Carrying the banner man to man
We’re always out there
Soakin’ every sucker that we can
Here’s the headline
Newsies on a mission
Kill the competition
Sell the next edition
We’ll be out there
Carrying the banner
See us out there
Carrying the banner
Always out there
Carrying the banner

We had a swell time. Newsies was one of my favorites growing up & I’m really glad I got to share this with my daughter. However, in light of recent events I’m just going to leave these lyrics here.

…Courage cannot erase our fear
Courage is when we face our fear
Tell those with power safe in their tower
We will not obey!

Behold the brave battalion that stands side by side
Too few in number and too proud to hide
Then say to the others who did not follow through
You’re still our brothers, and we will fight for you…

Wrongs will be righted
If we’re united
Let us seize the day

*Really though I was all about Davey. Sorry Batman.

  1. I am only a new fan of Newsies only beginning my journey with it last year through the stage version. My favorite of the Newsies is Jack and Crutchie. I love the stage version and I love Newsies for its story, songs, and dance
