Beauty Empties: Burts Bees

I have been a Burts Bees fan from waaaay back. Like all you could get at the local CVS was chapstick. With 1 swipe I wanted to be part of the hive.  I took to the web, which was basically geocities & aol, to track down more products. Also, blooming at this time was my love for the convenience of online shopping. I started placing regular orders for Mr. Shavits’ surprisingly extensive line of skincare. I still find it shocking there are people I KNOW that have no clue there’s more to Burts than chapstick!

Anyway sometime in the winter I noticed my malia was flaring up & my face just felt rough. I wasn’t using any product consistently so I did some research & found some budget friendly options which brought me back to the ol’hive & my first ever empties share.

My normally combination/oily skin was feeling so dehydrated I knew I needed something intense, but not heavy for the day. The Skin Nourment Day Lotion touting the benefits of royal jelly seemed like just the thing.

Royal jelly is considered to be one of the world’s most nutrient-rich substances, packed with protein and more than 100 nutrients, including:

  • Essential amino acids
  • Minerals
  • Vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, C, E
  • Biotin
  • Niacin
  • Folic acid

We use royal jelly in many of our natural skin care products because it is known to help enhance skin’s texture and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Royal jelly has also been found to have antioxidant and humectant properties.

What I like about this product is I really do believe it improved the texture & tone of my skin. The packaging is nice. This is a glass bottle with pump that dispenses just enough for my face. I always do an extra pump for my decolletage because I feel myself fast approaching my Nora Ephron I Feel Bad About My Neck phase. Once absorbed my face feels hydrated without feeling greasy.

What I don’t like is the initial consistency. It’s very liquidy & almost sticky until absorbed. It’s also surprisingly heavy on my face & takes ~10minutes to really feel absorded. I disliked this so much that I’m trying something different now that this is empty.

Obviously I picked up the Skin Nourishment Night Cream for consistency. The packaging is a nice glass pot. I don’t particularly like skin products in pots because it doesn’t seem very hygienic or controlled. I’d imagine the latter is a marketing technique. It seems most night creams come in pots. The better to slather yourself up I suppose.

Slathering is not necessary. This is a nice thick & creamy moisturizer. It absorbs very nicely though & leaves my skin feeling soft & smooth. This is definitely a repurchase.

Everybody’s used this before, or a chapstick in general, so I won’t go into any big product spiel. What I’m truly excited about here is the fact I used the chapstick until it was empty. I don’t think I’ve ever kept track of a tube of chapstick long enough that I actually used it up. It’s usually slipped away & lost before I ever even get halfway. So…Yay, Me!
