Beauty Empties: Burts Bees Part Deux

As you may remember from my very first empties post, I’ve been a member of the hive since before Beyonce’s fans appropriated bee culture as their own.

Since that post I’ve finished 3 more Burt’s Bees products.

The Acne Solutions Spot Treatment is a product I’ve been using for years. Sometimes I branch out & try something different, but I always come back to this product.

It’s main component is the ever present acne treatment  salicylic acid. The 2% formula is derived naturally from willow bark extract. Willow bark extract contains natural Beta Hydroxy Acids, which work as a skin exfoliator to help unclog your pores. Other key ingredients in this natural acne treatment cream are licorice root extract to help reduce the appearance of redness & tamanu oil to help promote healthy skin. When I have a blemish popping up I dab a dot of this cream on freshly clean skin, let it absorb, then follow up with moisturizer. I see improvement after about 24hrs & it typically clears up between 48 & 72hrs. I seldom have aggressive breakouts any longer. Full disclosure I do take sprintec low dose birth control, but if I don’t use this product on breakouts they tend to worsen & become painful. Higher strength salicylic acid treatments tend to tingle which entices me to touch the blemish more often. This cream is also soothing & helps keep me from picking. Overall this is one of my favorite & most consistently uses face products.

The second product is a replacement for the ill fated Skin Nourishment Day Lotion. I didn’t quite get what I was looking for, so I tried the Renewal Firming Day Lotion.

This lotion skips the royal jelly & boasts a hibiscus & apple rejuvenating complex. It is infused with wrinkle smoothing white hibiscus & intensively hydrating apple to lock moisture inside the skin plumping cells & visibly tightening the skin’s surface.

A quick comparison of how this stacks up to the Skin Nourishment lotion:

  • Packaging: Same, nice glass pump.
  • Consistency: Thicker & less messy,  but an almost gritty texture & the pump clogged.
  • Scent: Unpleasant powdery floral apple that reminds of bath&body works in the 90s. Not in a good way.
  • Absorption: Same, too long, too heavy feeling.

Now I do think it keeps it’s promises to moisturize, plump, & tighten, but the cons sure outweigh the results.

Rounding out the empties is a tertiary Skin Nourishment supplement that lasted as long as both moisturizers, Royal Jelly Eye Cream!

Royal Jelly contains 3 macronutrients as well as antioxidants, vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, minerals, and essential amino acids. It is clinically shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines & puffiness. This cream is very consistent with the night cream which I repurchased. It feels soft & smooth when applied, absorbing nicely.  It definitely helps with fine lines & brightening, but not enough with puffiness. This is going to be a potential repurchase, however,  I’m trying out a new product directed more for puffiness.

Burt’s Bees really does deliver on results. The products I’m not repurchasing are because of personal preference, not their lack of performance. Out of the 6 empties (from between the 2 posts) I would repurchase 4 & have already stocked up on 3 of them.
