Wakanda Forever

I have been wanting to put something together ever since seeing Black Panther, however I have struggled to find the words. I’ve also struggled with if it’s even appropriate for me to comment because frankly it’s not for me. I don’t want anyone to think I’m trying to feign ownership. I just want to admire the amazing wardrobe. I don’t think there’s any harm in that.

So where do I even start? I suppose with the costume designer. Ruth E. Carter isn’t new to the game. She had been nominated for the Oscar for Malcolm X & Amistad. Interestingly, it’s this beautiful powerful futuristic wonderland with deep deep roots that earned her the award.

Ms. Carter created 5 distinct tribe styles drawing on ancient African dress, afropunk culture, & afrofuturistic fashion. She infused every design with tradition & history while keeping clean simplistic lines that lend to an ultramodern feel.

I love how she gave T’challa a sophisticated & refined appearance with silver almost delicate detail in his supersuit* while Killmonger is full of street swagger & pulls strong gold detailing throughout his suit.

Oh, the ladies stood out the most to me. Every ensemble is powerful & graceful.

Ms. Carter’s artistry is immaculate.

*The supersuits were designed by established Marvel suit designer, Ryan Meinerding, but Ms. Carter created the style adding the details.
