I’ve been toying with the idea of doing posts to promote upcoming local events & what better event to start with than my hometown Founder’s Festival!
Saturday June 29th our downtown blocks will bw host to a daylong celebration of our 200 year heritage. We’ll have shopping, history, eating, & entertainment for all ages.
8am: Get your favorite latte at Battlegrounds & pop next door to Jovalou for their Saturday breakfast menu
9am: Art in the Alley (between Battlegrounds&Jovalou) gets going with classes offered all day.
Sign up here:
10am: Stop by the Y Fairfield booth for your passport to the past & stroll the self guided historic tour.
While perusing local shops keep an eye out for posters detailing historic Fairfield so you can enter the passport trivia contest.
Don’t forget to walk on down to the Wayne County Historical Society Hanna House Museum or take a lap around the park to explore our one room red schoolhouse.
10:30am: The fun for your littles gets started with train rides, crafts, & games on the courthouse lawn.
Coloring Contest pages & Art Projects will be displayed around town with the winners announced in the afternoon.
11am: Venture out to the Grand Opening of the Victorian on Main featuring the Independent Silver Band.
11:30am: Music in the Alley will begin accompanying the art classes & patrons.
12:30: Grab a bite from the food trucks & direct your attention to the mayoral address & mural dedication.
1:30: Catch a live interview with Ruthie Shelton, kin to the infamous Shelton Gang of southern Illinois.
2pm: Mainstage entertainment gets going with a performance from Legg Up Dance Studio followed by Kevin Biggs.
Spend sometime exploring the alleyways for Instagrammable spots. #fairfieldfoundersfestival
5pm: Aunt Jayne’s Pickle will grace the stage for a rare appearance.
6pm: Head over to the courthouse lawn for the City Band set.
7pm: Once you’ve found dinner (& maybe drinks) get ready for some pyschedelic southern funk from Mountain King.
8pm: Take in the final act of the night ( Cassie Andrews & Calico Creek) before popping back over to Jovalou for a night cap & app!
It promises to be an eventful day!
Hope to see you there!
